Readers will be in for a treat with The Trouble with True Love by Laura Lee Guhrke. It’s funny and it’s sexy, which is exactly what I knew I’d get the moment I picked this book. The banter and chemistry between Rex and Clara is off the charts.
I loved the way their relationship organically evolves from the moment Clara unintentionally eavesdrops on Rex’s conversation with Lionel to the time they become friends.
Their attraction is palpable from the get go and effortless at the same time. I thought the way the join forces and the reasons they each use to do so were believable. Their agreement to work together has a means to an end, but I enjoyed seeing how that end changed to something else neither one of them ever expected.
They go from enemies to business associates to best friends and eventually lovers. Rex has done such a great job in keeping up the rumors about his rakish ways, though he’s been nothing close to a rake in the past couple of years. I enjoyed seeing how Clara doesn’t believe him when he confesses the first time, and how she changes her opinion of him once she learns the reasons he’s usually short on funds.
My favorite part of this story is the way Rex falls head over heels for Clara and doesn’t realize it until he comes to terms with all that is the trouble with true love, and that it isn’t close to anything he’s ever seen or experienced.
One other thing I enjoyed about this story is that Clara, though inexperienced with all things related to the social circle she’s part of, is an independent career woman and not ashamed of it. This was quite refreshing.
I can never go wrong with Laura Lee Guhrke and absolutely loved this story!
